Would you like to do volunteer work with children? Could you be a safe adult?
What does it mean to be a "Safe Adult"?
The Safe Adult Network brings together a group of volunteers who are willing to work with children and young people in various volunteer roles. The volunteers’ tasks include, for example, organizing different kinds of events and activities in cooperation with schools. You can also come up with your own ideas for activities – so feel free to make suggestions if you have something in mind! Currently, the cooperation is especially active with Keimolanmäki School, but collaboration with other schools is also possible.
Examples of activities include storytime sessions, where the adult reads or tells a story, or shared reading sessions with students. All kinds of hands-on or interactive events are encouraged. These might include nature trips, crafts, woodworking, and similar activities. Events can also take place outside the school premises. In such cases, students travel using public transportation. There is always at least one teacher present during the activities, and volunteers always work in pairs.
Who can apply to become a Safe Adult?
Anyone who is a reliable and responsible adult and wishes to volunteer with children and young people can apply to become a Safe Adult. No prior experience working with children or doing volunteer work is required – we provide a brief orientation for all our volunteers.

How to apply to join the program?
You can apply to join the Safe Adult Network by filling out the application form. We will contact you and discuss the next steps.

We are also looking for volunteers for the Neighbourhood Mentor program. Learn more about the program here.
Additionally, we are seeking volunteer families to act as support families for children who have been bullied. If you are interested, please contact janina.lempinen@marjaverkko.fi or elina.olki@marjaverkko.fi.
Note: Currently, we are only looking for volunteer families to join the program, so unfortunately we cannot provide support families yet.
